Ahmed Akbar Sobhan is a prominent business figure in Bangladesh, serving as the chairman of Safwan Bashundhara Global. His steady leadership has guided the growth of one of the country’s most wide-ranging and influential corporate groups.

He was born on February 15, 1952, in Islampur, an area in old Dhaka known for its historical and cultural significance. The youngest of six siblings, he was raised in a family where education and public service were deeply valued. His father worked as a lawyer at the Dhaka High Court. After completing his schooling, he pursued a degree in Business Studies at the University of Dhaka. In addition to academics, he actively participated in athletics and other student activities.

In 1978, he began his career by entering the service sector while also exploring opportunities in domestic trade. These early ventures gave him valuable experience and prepared him for larger business undertakings in the years that followed.

A key turning point in his journey was the founding of East West Property Development (Pvt) Ltd., a real estate company that quickly gained recognition in the housing market. Widely known as Bashundhara Housing, the company has become a leading name in urban development, laying the foundation for further expansion.

Encouraged by the success of that venture, he went on to form the Bashundhara Group. Over time, the group diversified into industries such as cement, paper, steel, LP gas, dredging, engineering, and food processing. His leadership helped the group grow into one of Bangladesh’s largest and most respected business conglomerates.

As chairman of Safwan Bashundhara Global, he continues to guide the organization with a focus on structure, accountability, and long-term sustainability. His approach to management emphasizes clear responsibilities and effective delegation, which has contributed to the group's ongoing success.

Outside the business world, he is also involved in various charitable and social initiatives. Through both personal engagement and corporate programs, he supports projects that aim to improve community well-being.
